Art Ideas to do at home

Recycled Crayons

First, make sure all of the paper is peeled off of your crayons.  Next, place crayons of different colors into muffin tins (you can experiment with different shapes if you have the pans).  I sprayed my tins with a bit of Pam but I'm not sure if that was necessary. Make sure that you break up larger crayons into small pieces and try to get a variety of colors.   Fill the muffin tins about half way up in each space.

After the crayon bits are in the muffin tins, set your oven to a low heat around 250 degrees.  Place muffin tin in the oven and check the crayons after about 5 minutes. You have to keep an eye on them and remove them as soon as they are melted.  If you leave them in too long, you will know because you can smell them!  Try not to jostle the tray too much when removing from the oven so the colors keep some separation instead of turning into "mud."

After they have completely cooled (a few hours) you can carefully try to remove them from the tin. They are great for rubbing on paper with something underneath to make textures. Enjoy!
